Ruth Simels, 86, Formerly of Pleasantville

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Ruth M. Simels, formerly of Pleasantville, died Wednesday, June 20. She was 86. 

A longtime area resident, Simels worked for the village of Pleasantville and later retired as the assistant water supervisor for the town of Mount Pleasant after 25 years of service.  

After her retirement she moved to North Salem. Simels enjoyed dancing and swimming and was an avid gardener. 

She is survived by a son, Richard P. Carey; two daughters, Pamela G. Diaz and Denise M. Weber; a brother, Arthur Bauer; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, David A. Carey. 

Visiting hours are from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Beecher Funeral Home in Pleasantville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Rosary Church in Hawthorne. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
