Marianna Camilli, 87, Ex-Pleasantville Operator

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Marianna Camilli, a former longtime resident of Pleasantville, died July 9 after a prolonged battle with end-stage renal disease. She was 87.

Recently a resident of Long Ridge Rehabilitation in Stamford, Conn., Camilli spent her final days at the Stamford Hospital and died surrounded by her family.

She was born Aug. 13, 1924 in New York City to Cosimo and Christina Sottilaro. Raised in Ravenswood, Queens, N.Y., she then moved to Valhalla in her 20s. She met and married Henry P. Camilli on Sept. 25, 1954.

Camilli spent most of her life in Pleasantville. She began her career as a telephone operator for AT&T and went on to become a senior manager at Post Haste Index, a corporate direct mailing company in Pleasantville.

Her family said she "soldiered on" through 25 years of multiple illnesses and hospitalizations without ever succumbing to the pain and medical procedures. Camilli loved to play card games and was devoted to her faith.

She is survived by a daughter Mary (David) Bernat of Darien, Conn., a brother Joseph (Rose) Moledo of Prescott Ariz., a sister Rosemarie (Donald) Dresser of Hockessin, Del., a sister-in-law Josephine Camilli of Pleasantville, a brother-in-law Jack Bourne of New Jersey a granddaughter and 16 nieces and nephews.
