She was born in Brooklyn to Samuel and Rachel Ribakove, earning two Masters of Fine Arts degrees from CCNY and Pratt Institute, teaching art in New York City for 25 years and working as a puppeteer for the New York City Parks Department.
She was predeceased by her parents, ex-husband Murry Gabel, brother Lionel Ribakove and daughter Laura Gabel, and is survived by sister Florence Bar-Ilan of Rehovot, Israel; three sons, Jonathan and partner Ligaya Yadao in Oakland, Calif.; Michael and his partner Irene Amy Scheinbaum of El Cerrito; and Matthew and his wife Jane in Oakland, Calif.; grandchildren Andrew Gabel and Sophie Gabel-Scheinbaum; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Plaza Jewish Community Chapel, 630 Amsterdam Ave., New York City.
Interment will be at Beth David Cemetery in Elmont.
