Catherine T. O’Connell, 85, Longtime Pleasantville Resident

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - Catherine T. O'Connell, a longtime resident of Pleasantville, died May 14. She was 85.

O’Connell was born March 22, 1929, in Yonkers, to Cecelia (Martin) and John Lynn. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School and married Dr. James O'Connell.

She was active in many church and school organizations, before working in the Financial Aid Office at Pace University until her retirement in 1994. She prepared and served lunch to seniors at Holy Innocents, teaching CCD, and being a eucharistic minister.

O’Connell is survived by her daughters, Catherine Hopkins (John), Rosita McNamara (Thomas), Bernadette Chiarlitti (Anthony), Maureen Leak (Kevin), Patricia Hoxsie (Ronald), Jamie O'Connell (Ronald Jendzejec); 21 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Marian Ricci; sisters-in-law, Rosita O'Connell, Elena O'Connell; and lifelong friends, Alice O'Brien and Ann Blute. She was predeceased by her parents; and brother-in-law, Bill O'Connell.

Calling hours are Friday, May 23 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Beecher Flooks Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 24 at Holy Innocents R.C. Church followed by interment at All Souls Cemetery in Pleasantville.
