Shoppers have reported empty shelves at supermarkets throughout Westchester and rumors have run rampant that the store, headquartered in Irvington, is closing.

Customers who shop at the store's location in Briarcliff say that the shelves are empty and the store has blamed its vendors.

Eric de la Cova said he "was a little shocked at how sparsely stocked it was.

"It looked like maybe they were going out of business," he added.

Denise Carey Weber said she noticed the store no longer had fresh bread delivered daily in Briarcliff.

"I asked about it and they told me it was a' 'vendor issue,' " Weber said. "I happened to be in Mount Kisco later in the week, so I went to the Mrs. Green' there. No fresh bread. Next it was no bananas, and day by day it got worse and worse to the point where I stopped going to the Briarcliff store for a week."

Weber said she did go back to Briarcliff and found there was an improvement.

A person who answered the phone at the Briarcliff location on Oct. 27 told Daily Voice the store was  not closing.

In Mount Kisco, Amy Caponnetto Galloway said she has seen empty shelves and the store keeps saying a delivery is coming.

" I'm not sure," Galloway said. "It is such a huge part of my grocery shopping and a big part of our community. I will be devastated if they go under."

In Tarrytown, customers said the store is getting emptier by the week.

"Tarrytown is lacking items that it used to have," Richard Carey said. "We have noticed items we used to purchase are only sporadically available."

A spokesman for Mrs. Green's told lohud that the stores are not closing and that the company was working to resolve the issue. He said it was a supply side problem and not related to the company's finances.

The company recently closed two stores in Illinois and one in New Jersey. In Westchester, Mrs. Green's also has locations in Yorktown, Eastchester, Larchmont, and Rye.

A location in Katonah closed last year.
