Donato Pagnotta and Giovanni Dilullo, the owners of J & D Painting Contractors Corporation have been arrested after allegedly writing $20,000 in false checks to six employees and stashing the cash for several months between May 2016 and January.

According to Schneiderman, the laborers were told they’d be paid each week, though Pagnotta and Diullo continually deferred. The duo was indicted by a jury on Monday charging them with multiple counts of grand larceny, scheming to defraud and failing to make contributions to the unemployment insurance fund.

Pagnotta and Diullo were each released on their own recognizance and are due back in court next month to answer the charges.
