PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- Brittany Shields finished with a double-double of 26 points and 12 rebounds and score the 1000th point of her college career on her final basket of the game Tuesday to lead the Pace women to a 70-59 victory over visiting Adelphi.
Shields (Cold Spring), who became the 25th Pace woman to score 1,000 points, has helped lead the Setters to a 6-1 overall record and 5-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference. Adelphi dropped to 2-6 overall and 1-5 in the NE-10.
The Setters started off with 11-2 run in the first three minutes and held a 23-12 lead midway through the first half. Adelphi was able to go on a run and cut the lead to four points with two minutes left before Pace finished the first half up 36-29.
Jessica Kitrys (Parlin, N.J.) had a double-double for the Panthers with a total of 16 points and 11 rebounds. Shannon Flynn (Williston Park, N.Y.) had nine points and four assists, while Kara Tancredi (Beacon, N.Y.) had eight points and a team-high of five steals.
Kerri White (Flushing, N.Y.) had 19 points and a team-high of four steals for Pace. Carol Johnson (New City, N.Y.) and Brianna Harris (Brentwood, N.Y.) each had six rebounds with seven points contributed by Johnson. Maral Javadifar (Flushing, N.Y.) had eight points and seven assists for the Setters.
The Setters will host C.W. Post Friday at 7 p.m. in a non-conference match-up. The Pioneers are 5-3 overall and 0-2 in the East Coast Conference.
