Setters Remain Unbeaten at Southern Connecticut

The Setters women's basketball team held off a late rally by Southern Connecticut Wednesday to remain unbeaten on the season with a 46-42 Northeast-10 Conference victory.

Pace improved to 5-0 and 4-0 in the NE-10, while the Owls fell to 2-3 and 2-2 in conference play.

The Setters jumped out to a 16-6 lead and led 20-12 at the halftime break as Maral Javadifar (Flushing, N.Y.) led the opening push with seven points. Javadifar finished with 13 points and Brittany Shields totaled 12 points and four rebounds for the Setters.

Pace would pull ahead in the second half to take a 31-19 lead as Shields (Cold Spring, N.Y.) converted a three-point play with 13:40 left in the game. The Owls rallied to pull within two points at 44-42 with 50 seconds remaining in the game. But Carol Johnson (New City, N.Y.) hit a pair of free throws with 24 seconds on the clock to put the game out of reach for Pace.

The Setters are back in action on Saturday in Albany for a Northeast-10 Conference game against the College of Saint Rose at 1:30 p.m.
