Pleasantville's Bob Paine Gets Volunteer Award From Trail Conference

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Bob Paine of Pleasantville received the Distinguished Service Award from the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference at the organization's annual meeting held recently at the Caputo Community Center in Ossining.

The award is given by the Trail Conference Volunteer Committee to recognize significant service or a special achievement by Trail Conference volunteers.

Paine earned the award for his trail maintenance work in Harriman State Park.

The award's citation celebrates Paine for “[going] out without fail in every season for 20 years to keep his trails open for hikers.” Examples include clearing multiple blow downs after the rough weather experienced in the last few fall seasons, be they snowstorms or hurricanes.

The New York-New Jersey Trail Conference was founded in 1920 to protect and promote a network of over 2,000 miles of public trails in the New York-New Jersey metropolitan region. The nonprofit organization counts a combined membership of over 100,000 volunteers, with 100 clubs and 10,000 individuals making up the numbers.
