PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. Pleasantville Police Officer Juan Garcia was promoted to sergeant at Monday night's Pleasantville Board of Trustee's meeting in front of a large group of family and friends.
"This is a great moment for the Pleasantville Police Department," said police chief Richard Love Monday evening. "I'm very proud to be able to promote Juan Garcia to sergeant tonight," Pleasantville Mayor Peter Scherer echoed the thoughts of his police chief before swearing in Garcia.
"Juan you have certainly given yourself to the village in various ways," Scherer said. "We are delighted not only to have you here but to see you advance in this role."
The promotion comes at a time when the police department has shrunk over recent years. Love said that the department that was once at 26 officers is now at only 20 and that they have been forced to do more with less.
Garcia will go through a probationary period of 52-78 weeks and his salary is set at $105,272.
