George Sinis has been the owner of Pleasantville Pizza on Wheeler Avenue since August 2006, after working there for five years. Sinis was born in Marseille, France before his father brought his five siblings with him to New York City in 1968.
I came in 68 right next to Yankee Stadium, Sinis said. My dad, he was from Athens, Greece and he wanted better for his kids. Coming to America was the best thing he ever did.
Sinis started rolling out pizza dough in 1974 at a pizza joint in the north Bronx.
The first time I ever touched pizza was on Jerome Avenue [in the Bronx] next to Clinton High School and Bronx Science, Sinis said. Then I started working at Vinnys, now Jean Jacques, in Pleasantville in 1984.
His business isnt what it was in 2006 when he started, but Sinis said he likes Pleasantville and hopes to stay for a long time.
Were hanging in there, Sinis said. We hope to stay right here in Pleasantville. Its so beautiful and the people are so nice.
Pleasantville Pizza offers sandwiches, gyros, wraps, wedges, soups and salads, as well as pizza. A popular summer item at Pleasantville Pizza is their Italian ice, which comes in five flavors -- mango, rainbow, cherry, lemon and chocolate. Stop by and pick up a slice or get a pie delivered to Briarcliff, Chappaqua, Thornwood, Hawthorne and Valhalla.
Theres a lot of competition but its good competition, Sinis said. Its nice to be in business for yourself but its stressful, Sinis said. Youre your own boss.
Stop by Pleasantville Pizza at 34 Wheeler Avenue next to the train station entrance or you can call your order in at 914-769-3391.
