PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- The village of Pleasantville has named itself a Purple Heart village, to show its appreciation for the sacrifices made by Purple Heart recipients and to encourage residents to support veterans, according to a report by The Examiner.
Through Purple Heart, veterans are provided with services that are no longer funded by the Veterans Association, including haircuts for VA hospital residents and recreational activities such as bowling, according to the report.
The declaration was announced by Mayor Peter Scherer, according to the report.
