Pleasantville Bakery Ready for Valentine's Day

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Denise Treco vividly remembers receiving various types of chocolate treats on Valentine’s Day when she was a kid.

“There’s just something about chocolate on Valentine’s Day,” Treco said. “I remember my father would always come home with chocolate cakes for my mother and my siblings and I.”

Today, Treco is the one providing Valentine’s Day treats for Westchester County residents as the owner of Flour & Sun Bakery in Pleasantville. Westchester Magazine named Flour & Sun the top cupcake bakery in the county in 2009 and 2010 and one of their most popular days of the year is Valentine’s Day.  The store will be offering eight specialty cupcakes for the romantic day, including their popular red velvet and chocoholic lovers cupcakes.

Treco said she anticipates a large crowd on Tuesday, as she believes there is a trend with the holiday.

“There’s something about Valentine’s Day that people just wait until the last minute,” Treco said. “I guess a lot of people think they can just wing it.”

Treco said she and her staff of bakers will be making their cupcakes fresh on Tuesday and recommends that customers call in their order in the morning if they would like to pick it up later in the day. Last year, some residents weren’t so lucky in picking up last minute treats for their loved ones.

“Last year on Valentine’s Day we completely sold out by three in the afternoon, a few hours before we close, and people were begging me if I had anything in the back and I couldn’t help them,” Treco said. “Although I would love to sell out again obviously, it would be nice if everyone got what they wanted.”

On Tuesday, the bakery will open at 10 a.m. and stay open until 7 p.m., an hour past their normal close time. Besides their cupcakes, Flour & Sun will also offer special Valentine’s Day cookies and gift boxes as well as multiple gluten free items.
