PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. Denise Treco vividly remembers receiving various types of chocolate treats on Valentines Day when she was a kid.
Theres just something about chocolate on Valentines Day, Treco said. I remember my father would always come home with chocolate cakes for my mother and my siblings and I.
Today, Treco is the one providing Valentines Day treats for Westchester County residents as the owner of Flour & Sun Bakery in Pleasantville. Westchester Magazine named Flour & Sun the top cupcake bakery in the county in 2009 and 2010 and one of their most popular days of the year is Valentines Day. The store will be offering eight specialty cupcakes for the romantic day, including their popular red velvet and chocoholic lovers cupcakes.
Treco said she anticipates a large crowd on Tuesday, as she believes there is a trend with the holiday.
Theres something about Valentines Day that people just wait until the last minute, Treco said. I guess a lot of people think they can just wing it.
Treco said she and her staff of bakers will be making their cupcakes fresh on Tuesday and recommends that customers call in their order in the morning if they would like to pick it up later in the day. Last year, some residents werent so lucky in picking up last minute treats for their loved ones.
Last year on Valentines Day we completely sold out by three in the afternoon, a few hours before we close, and people were begging me if I had anything in the back and I couldnt help them, Treco said. Although I would love to sell out again obviously, it would be nice if everyone got what they wanted.
On Tuesday, the bakery will open at 10 a.m. and stay open until 7 p.m., an hour past their normal close time. Besides their cupcakes, Flour & Sun will also offer special Valentines Day cookies and gift boxes as well as multiple gluten free items.
