Pleasantville Appoints New Police Lieutenant

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- Friends, family and colleagues honored Sgt. Erik Grutzner as the Pleasantville Police Department's new lieutenant during a promotion ceremony at village hall on Monday night.

"Truly, it’s a very humbling thing to see so many of the people I work with here tonight," Grutzner said. "I’m very lucky to have worked in this village, made some of the friendships within and with outside the department that I have and I look forward continuing that into the future."

Grutzner earned the promotion after 18 years in the department. He will earn an annual salary of $125,460 in his new position, which he will begin on April 16.

"It is a pleasure and honor to welcome you to this podium for this purpose and to see a long-standing member of the Pleasantville Police Department who has worked his way through the way the ranks of patrolman, to sergeant and now to lieutenant," said Mayor Peter Scherer.

He is taking over for the retiring Lt. Michael Wilson, whose tenure as the department's sole lieutenant officially ends on Friday.

"I would be remiss if I did not mention the outstanding years of dedicated service provided by Michael Wilson," said Chief Richard Love. "I know that I speak on behalf of everyone in this room and offer the heartiest congratulations on a job well-done. You will be missed."
