PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. The first phase of the roof-replacement project at the Mount Pleasant Library is almost over and the building could re-open to the public early next week.
Process is two more days of (asbestos) removal. Then we will need to get a final air clearance, said Library Director John Fearon. Assuming everything goes well, Monday is a push but Tuesday looks doable.
Library officials were hopeful the work could be completed by July 30, but the roof repair project took longer than anticipated due to frequent thunderstorms last week. Fearon said the nature of the work means a very large decking area is exposed and a heavy storm could create a lot of damage. So if the forecast calls for thunderstorms, the workers don't even start that day.
Fearon said the weather has been better this week, allowing workers to start on time and get more done. Theyve made a lot of progress, he said.
The Bedford Road library has been closed since July 23. During the construction, the hours have been extended at the Branch Library at 125 Lozza Drive in Valhalla. The temporary hours of 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays will remain the same until the Main Library re-opens.
Fearon said by Saturday he should know for certain when the library will re-open. To keep residents updated, the library will maintain a blog . Residents also can call the Main Library at 914-769-0548 as the voicemail will be updated regularly.
