Since 2008, thousands of people from the gaming community have pledged to play games to help save the lives of sick and injured kids through Extra Life – a gaming program to support local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital is the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital for the Hudson Valley and Fairfield County in Connecticut.

All the money you raise for Extra Life will go directly to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital that you choose. Friends and family support gamer’s efforts knowing that their money is going to stay local and help kids within their community, said Meredith Buono of Westchester Medical Center, one of the organizers of the event.

Gamers can choose to play games at home or unite with local gamers for the 12-hour Gaming Marathon on the Westchester Medical Center campus, which will run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the Taylor Conference Center.

A variety on gaming platforms will be available, including PS4, Xbox One, Wii U, and GameCube, as well as tabletop games. Microsoft will be on-hand to present prizes and lead activities, and will award an epic prize to the gamer who collects the most donations!

Groups already participating include: a trio of New Rochelle High School students who previously raised money for Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital through their “Gamers Give” class project; the Westchester Gaming Geeks, who will fundraise and hold a 24-hour gaming event at Modern Myths in Mamaroneck, for the fourth year; and October Country, led by an Extra Life supporter and SUNY New Paltz professor, which will host an event for those interested in board games and roll-playing games.

The registration fee for the Gaming Marathon is $15 and includes food and a raffle ticket. Gamers under the age of 18 must have a guardian’s permission. For more information or to register, contact Meredith Buono at meredith.buono@wmchealth.org or 914-493-5285.
