WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- The only one who knows how to throw a Super Bowl party better than a football fan is a football player, which is why Bob Hyland's Sports Page Pub in White Plains throws one of the best.
Owner Bob Hyland played in the NFL for the New York Giants for five years, the Green Bay Packers for four years, the Chicago Bears for one year and the New England Patriots for another.
He played in Super Bowl II with the Packers, so it's safe to say he knows a thing or two about the national event.
"It definitely wasn't as big of an event as it is now, but it was certainly a special experience when I played," he said.
Hyland's sports bar has been a haven for Super Bowl revelers in its 33 years. Regulars and new faces alike flock their each year for the wings, beer and pizza specials, beer and wing specials, and, notably, the door prizes.
"We give away a lot of door prizes: sweatshirts with our own Super Bowl logos on them, beer, fridges, speakers," he said. "There's tons of stuff that we give away. It's kind of fun because every quarter we pass things out."
According to Hyland, people have learned to trust his sports bar for a good experience because not only has it been voted Westchester Magazines "Best of Westchester," for 14 years running, but it is also the oldest sports bar in the county.
"It's a very congenial group we get here. It's definitely not a kids place. The crowd is a little more mature," he said.
Additionally, if you spend $25 or more at Bob's on Superbowl Sunday, you get free parking.
Bob Hyland's Sports Page Pub is at 200 Hamilton Ave in White Plains.
