WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- With rain moving into Westchester County early Thursday evening, a Dense Fog Advisory will be in effect from midnight until 10 a.m. Friday, the National Weather Service said.

Visibility will be limited to a quarter mile or less across the Hudson Valley, New York City, Long Island, southern Connecticut and northern New Jersey.

The dense fog will make travel difficult overnight and through the Friday morning commute.

Motorists are advised to slow down, use low-beam headlights and leave plenty of distance ahead in case a sudden stop is needed.

As a warm front moves northeast toward the area, southeast winds will transport mild, moist air across the colder waters of the Atlantic Ocean and over the deep snowpack, the National Weather Service said.

This will cause dense fog to form after midnight. It will lift after sunrise when the warm front passes through the area.

Light rain is expected Thursday evening, after 7 p.m. Friday will bring rain showers, with thunderstorms possible after 10 a.m. The storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Highs will be near 51 degrees. Up to a half-inch of rain could fall.

The rain will melt more snow and could lead to huge puddles and flooding due to the heavy snowpack and icepack from this winter's frequent snowstorms.

More melting will occur Saturday with highs near 50 and mostly sunny skies.

Sunday brings a chance of afternoon showers and evening snow.
