Sweat escaped from he Clinton Correctional Facility with fellow inmate Richard Matt, who was shot and killed during the manhunt in June. The search for Sweat ended when he was shot by a State Trooper while attempting to evade authorities.

The additional prison time is on top of a life sentence that Sweat was already serving for murder.

Sweat attempted to apologize for his behavior following the escape, but Judge Patrick McGill subsequently ripped Sweat for a lifetime of "stupid decisions," NBC News reported.
