Under Astorino and Day's plan, 40 percent of a $5 billion fund would be used to help defray the cost of the $3.9 billion project and prevent massive toll increases, LoHud.com said.

"Using bank settlement money to fund new Tappan Zee Bridge would be sensible thing to ensure motorists aren't slammed with sky high tolls," Astorino Tweeted

Recent reports have suggested that tolls on the new bridge would triple to $15 in order to help fund the project, LoHud.com said.
