HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- Somewhere in Dobbs Ferry, on a misty Halloween night, actress Jane Alexander and neighbor Fran Greenberg welcomed trick-or-treaters into Witches Lane.
Alexander, best known for her roles in films "The Great White Hope," "Kramer vs. Kramer," "Brubaker," "Testament" and "All the President's Men," took on her recurring role as resident witch for another Halloween in the village.
"I really enjoy being part of Halloween here, with the children and neighbors," Alexander said as she welcomed willing visitors in for candy and a peek at her boiling cauldron. "My grandchildren just came by. Children should be able to enjoy a safe and happy experience. I have as much fun as they do."
While Alexander was bewitching youngsters and adults, trading candy for kisses, Greenberg was offering hot apple cider and popcorn in her home a few doors down with the help of wizard Bob Klein.
"I took over the role (witch) for a neighbor who did it for many years," Greenberg said. "I think the children enjoy seeing welcoming neighbors and playing witch is so much fun for me. And after they come here, they visit (Jane Alexander) next."
