PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - The quaint 1.8 square miles of Pleasantville were recently highlighted by media giant The Wall Street Journal .

The article, headlined "Pleasantville Keeps Its Walking Shoes On" by Melanie Lefkowitz, appeared in the March 2 print version of the newspaper and also online . The article focused on the growing business district in Pleasantville despite its small size and population, thanks mostly to the walkability of Pleasantville combined with attractive points of interest.

"The downtown, which struggled with vacancies in years past, is thriving, thanks in part to the 12-year-old Jacob Burns Film Center on Manville Road, a nonprofit arts center whose offerings include independent films and educational programs," Lefkowitz writes. "A variety of restaurants, as well as popular bakeries and one of Westchester's largest independent toy stores, are additional draws."

Lefkowitz spoke with Pleasantville Mayor Peter Scherer, who said a big reason behind Pleasantville's growth is the number of young families attracted to the area.

"A big contingent have come from Brooklyn and they've brought lots of energy and a new vibe," Scherer said in the article. "People have commented to me, and I think it's true, that Pleasantville is a kind of updated modernized version of the way the world used to be."
