PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – In an effort to get more village residents to recycle, Pleasantville is set to distribute new and improved recycling bins to each household.
"Its one of our proudest moments," Pleasantville Mayor Peter Scherer said. "The village has not distributed new bins in a very long time."
With the help of Plesantville's Recycling Committee, the village received a grant to purchase the new bins. The new bins are dark green and 18 gallons, which Scherer said is bigger than the current ones. The village recently expanded its recycling to accept a wider range of plastics, which Scherer said was one of the main reasons to buy the new bins.
"If my household is any indication, that change in allowing more to be recycled has warranted a bigger bin," Scherer said.
Village Administrator Patti Dwyer said at last week's Board of Trustees meeting that it has not been determined how or when the bins will be distributed to each household, but that she expects them to be out by the end of the month.
"Right now we're looking at routes to distribute them," Dwyer said. "And we also have to first determine the households that have more than one family, because they'll obviously receive more than one bin."
