PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - Members of the Pleasantville nonprofit group Hope's Door are hoping to spread their goal of ending discrimination against women by joining a statewide initiative to spread awareness on the issue.

Hope's Door, along with advocates from across the state, has helped to create New York Women's Equality Coalition.

"We are proud to be among hundreds of organizations in New York to take part in this very important initiative," said CarlLa Horton, executive director of Hope's Door. "There are far too many discriminatory barriers holding women back from achieving their goals. That is why we are taking a stand and joining this coalition for changes tomorrow."

The goal of the coalition is to bring attention to women's inequality, both in the workplace and their everyday lives. The effort stemmed from Gov. Andrew Cuomo's Women's Equality Agenda, which was unveiled in his State of the State address in early January. Members of Hope's Door attended a news conference earlier this month in Albany to help launch the coalition.

Hope's Door is a shelter on Washington Avenue in Pleasantville that offers a safe haven for men and women of all ages who are victims of domestic violence.
