PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - Author and Pleasantville native Peter Altschul will return to the Village Bookstore on Aug. 8 to sign copies of his book, "Breaking Barriers: Working and Loving While Blind.: The signing will be from 6 to 8 p.m.

All proceeds from the signing, which coincides with International Assistance Dog Week, will benefit Guiding Eyes for the Blind. Altschul received his first Guiding Eyes dog 35 years ago, and will be matched with his sixth guide dog on Wednesday.

"Guiding Eyes for the Blind is a terrific school,” Altschul said. “I am very blessed to have been paired with five of their dogs over the years.”

"Breaking Barriers" revolves around Altschul’s professional and personal life, and the assistance and companionship he found along the way in his Guiding Eyes dogs.

"Peter's book is a testament to how Guiding Eyes dogs enable freedom for people to achieve life's goals," said Sue Dishart, vice president of marketing and development at Guiding Eyes for the Blind, in a written statement.
