PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – MaryElizabeth Regan Kane, a registered nurse from Pleasantville, died April 28 at Cedar Manor Nursing Home in Ossining. She was 89.
Raised in Queens, N.Y., Kane was a daughter of Roy Russell Regan, DDS, and Lillian Elizabeth Amon Regan. She attended St. Luke's Nursing School and was a graduate of St. John's Nursing School in New York City.
She married Arthur C. Kane and they had three children. They lived in Huntington Station, Long Island, before moving to Pleasantville in 1958. Following the couple's divorce in 1963, Kane returned to her profession as a registered nurse at Northern Westchester Hospital.
Kane nursed thousands of patients and became lifelong friends with the B West nurses and staff at NWH. She also practiced in the ICU and telemetry units. She lived on Woodbrook Road for 45 years and was an active volunteer most of her life. In her retirement, Kane was an officer in the Pleasantville Garden Club. She also participated in the service group of the Women's Club of Pleasantville.
Kane traveled extensively, especially with her sister, Audrey, accompanying the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra around the world.
She is survived by a daughter, Dr. Jeanne Kane; a son, Russell Kane; a sister, Bernice Michener; a granddaughter and five great-grandsons. Kane was predeceased by a son, Robert Kane, and two sisters, Ruth Johnson and Dr. Audrey Regan Kardos.
A private burial will be held at Flushing Cemetery on Friday. An informal memorial gathering is planned for Saturday, from 10 a.m. to noon, at Beecher Funeral Home in Pleasantville.
