PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - One of Westchester County's oldest residents, Philomena Placona, of Pleasantville, died Nov. 26 at the age of 108.
Placona was said to attribute her long lifespan to olive oil and garlic and had danced on her 100th birthday.
Born in 1903 in Brooklyn, she was one of six children. Placona became known to many as "Mrs. P." and as the landlady of her home. In honor of her years and spirit, she was recognized by the American Legion in Pleasantville. Placona was also a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Pompeii Church.
She is survived by her daughter and care-taker Sue Placona of Pleasantville, her son Vincent "Jimmy" Placona and his wife Anna of Florida, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Placona was predeceased by her husband of over 50 years, Joseph, her daughter Anna Piazza, a son-in-law and a daughter-in-law.
A funeral service was held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Pompeii Church. Funeral arrangements were handled by Beecher Funeral Home .
