Albert Olson, 80, Pleasantville Landscaper

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Albert Aloysius Olson Jr. of Pleasantville died March 29 at Rosary Hill Home in Hawthorne. He was 80.

Prior to his retirement in 2000, Olson was employed for more than 40 years at Rosedale Nurseries in Hawthorne. His landscaping work in the tri-state area was a source of great pride to him.

Born June 7, 1931, in Mt. Kisco, he was the son of Albert A. Olson Sr. and Rita Gardner Olson. He served in the US Marine Corps from 1951 to 1954. The Marine Corps motto, "Forever Faithful," was an overarching code he lived by. A parishioner of Holy Innocents Church in Pleasantville, Olson started as an altar boy and later became an usher.

He was also very proud of his Irish heritage and spent countless hours attending Irish heritage festivals and enjoying concerts by the Wolfe Tones and Clancy Brothers, always accompanied by members of his family.

Olson is survived by two sons, Michael Olson, of Pleasantville, and Richard (Connie) Olson, of Seebring, Fla.; two daughters, Susan Olson (Steven) Smith, of Fayetteville, N.C., and Therese Olson Dwyer of Pleasantville; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and by his brother, Richard John Olson.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Holy Innocents Church. Burial will follow at All Soul’s Cemetery in Pleasantville. Funeral arrangements are by Beecher Funeral Home in Pleasantville.

Although Olson worked with plants all of his life, he didn't enjoy cut flowers. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Rosary Hill Home in Hawthorne or the Intrepid Fallen Warriors Fund in his name.
