Pleasantville Pool Repairs Move Along Swimmingly

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Village officials are working overtime on planning repairs to the bath house and pumping station at the Pleasantville Pool in hopes of having the work approved before September.

Village Administrator Patti Dwyer recently met with new Department of Public Works Superintendent Jeff Econum, a licensed engineer who assisted the village in drawing a new site plan instead of having to hire an outside engineer.

“We ended up saving a few thousand dollars by rolling up our sleeves and working on this on our own, and coming up with what we think is going to be the design intent,” Dwyer said.

The pool is open this summer but officials said the repairs are necessary for next year, especially on the pumping station. Dwyer said the pumping station covers the pool’s water pump and has issues with its water infiltration and proper ventilation, which could cause the pump to malfunction. She said the bath house simply needs to be fixed up to keep up with Department of Health regulations.

“We’ll bring it to the board at the end of August and see if it’s a go,” Dwyer said of the plans. “If it’s not, we go back to the drawing board.”

If approved, the village will be able put out a construction bid for the project over the winter, and have the work completed by the spring.

Village officials have not revealed the cost of the projects as they are in the early stages, but Dwyer previously talked about the possibility of raising the cost of pool passes as a way to pay for the capital improvements. Dwyer said any possible increase would be temporary.
