NWH's DaVinci Surgery Offers Minimally Invasive Prostate Treatment

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- When fighting prostate cancer, sometimes less is more. As doctors everywhere work towards less invasive procedures and shorter recovery times for patients, the robot-assisted prostatectomy available at Northern Westchester Hospital provides the world's most innovative treatment techniques closer to home than ever before.

"We use the da Vinci robotic system to treat early stage prostate cancer here at Northern Westchester Hospital," said Dr. Warren Bromberg, a surgeon for the Minimally Invasive Surgery Program at NWH. "One of the tool's benefits is the ability to perform complex surgery for patients through very small incisions in the skin." As a result, patients experience less pain, a quicker recovery and can sooner return to everyday activities

Surgeons at NWH realize that no two patients' needs are the same, and therefore provide a variety of treatment options. When appropriate, radioactive seed implantation is used to eliminate the tumor and minimize radiation effects to nearby tissues and organs. External radiation can also be used to treat the prostate and surrounding tissue, while in the most advanced cases, hormone therapy is used.

"We have one of the most experienced and high volume programs in the region," said Bromberg, of NWH's prostate care team. "I feel very fortunate to live in the Northern Westchester area, as we're a hospital that practices what most others simply preach."
