NFL Veteran, ERA Realty Huddle Up To Tackle Youth Support Networks

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- For ERA Insite Realty agent Dave Zachos, building better communities doesn't just involve helping residents find homes. Rather, it begins with the families that live in them. That’s why he and ERA Insite Realty are partnering with SportsWorld, an educational non-profit, to help youth receive the community support they need to achieve their goals.

When Zachos approached ERA Insite Realty broker/owners Lou and Debra Budetti about sponsoring the event, the decision was an easy one. "The brokers at ERA have a heart for the community," he said. "They want to go above and beyond, not just selling houses but providing resources and support for the areas they serve."

From April 24 to 26, NFL veteran Steve Grant will address Westchester parents and students, sharing his remarkable story of growing up in Miami, becoming a professional athlete and the challenges of life after football.

As the event's organizer, Zachos felt a need to challenge students and help inspire them to be more. "The goal is for Steve to share his personal life experiences and encourage others to come alongside and help the youth of our area," said Zachos. "We want the community to come out and be inspired to help."

A speaker on SportsWorld's nationwide talk circuit, Grant will make stops at several lower Westchester County middle and high schools, as well as host a public Community Town Hall Meeting sponsored by White Plains Youth Bureau.

“I used to be a school resource officer and worked with a lot of troubled youth and their families.” said Zachos, who has been responsible for the hospitality, fundraising and networking surrounding Grant’s talk. "I got involved because I wanted to find another way to help change at-risk kids' heads and hearts, and start them on the right path."

Zachos sees Westchester County as no different than the rest of the United States, where many mothers and fathers work to make ends meet, often at the expense of creating an important home support network. "These kids need to have someone believe in them, and I've seen how hearts have been changed through these talks," he said. "This talk can be a life changing event; it's something I've seen inspire youth to do an about-face and reach goals that they never thought possible."

Steve Grant's Community Town Hall Meeting is open to the public and will be held Monday, April 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Thomas Slater Center in White Plains. Admission is free, but donations are welcome.
