Netflix is using the building at 519 S. 5th Ave. as a set for its upcoming crime drama, “Seven Seconds,” and will be filming there at night from now until May, according to a report by lohud.com.
Owner Jay Friedman, who told lohud.com that production crews have been turning the lobby into a faux police station, said the subscription entertainment company was impressed by the 1914 building’s architectural details, such as its oak chair railings and terrazzo tile floors.
Next fall, when the 10-episode series airs, you might be able to catch a glimpse of Friedman himself – the 81-year-old snagged a part as an extra on the show, the lohud.com story said.
According to multiple media reports, the drama tell the story of tensions in Jersey City that flare up after an African-American teen is critically wounded by a white police officer.
It was developed by Veena Sud, produced by Fox 21 Television Studies, and will be directed by produced by Gavin O'Connor.
Friedman is president of Reliable Electronics of Mount Vernon Inc., a business he has run out of the building for more than 32 years. It previously belonged to a company that ran trolleys.
