Give The Gift Of Life At County-Wide Organ Donation Sign-Ups

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- With more than half a million new enrollees in 2016, New York has become one of the fastest-growing organ donation states in the country, but unfortunately only 30 percent of New Yorkers over age 18 have enrolled as organ donors – well-below the national average of 52 percent. With nearly 10,000 people in the greater New York metropolitan area alone waiting for a transplant, the need for registered donors is great.

That's why Northern Westchester Hospital and LongLiveNY.org are partnering to host organ donation signups across the county this fall. The goal is for area residents to join the already 4.4 million New Yorkers who have already signed up to potentially save lives.

Not sure if donation is right for you? Potential donors shouldn't rule themselves out due preexisting medical conditions or age; in fact, New York recently saw a 93 year-old donor give life to a transplant recipient.

"We’re hopeful that New Yorkers will be inspired to take action and register as organ and tissue donors," said James Pardes, vice president of marketing and communications for LiveOnNY.

Organ donor registry days will be held at the following Westchester County events:

  • Mt. Kisco Sales Day -- Sept. 16 & 17 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; South Moger Avenue, Mt. Kisco
  • Chappaqua Community Day -- Sept. 16 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Salon 228, 26 South Greeley Avenue, Chappaqua
