WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. - Knowing what color to paint a room can be challenging. Dark colors add coziness, while light colors open up space. However, the spectrum in between can lead to confusion and matching difficulty. That's why the paint experts at Benjamin Moore unveil  their pick for the 'Color of the Year', annually. This year's winner, "Shadow" is mix of rich purple and gray, bringing and elegant flare to any room.

Kimberly Scappaticci, design director at Wallauer's Design Center, a Benjamin Moore retailer, feels the color works especially great as an accent. "Shadow would go very nicely in a bedroom or living room where you're trying to accent a specific wall," she said.

However, the beauty in Shadow lies in its versatility. From large spaces to smaller accents, the color adds an elegance inspired by in Renaissance luxury. "I think the color would look great in a powder room where someone is trying to create elegance," said Scappaticci. "Powder rooms are all about the wow factor since you don't have to live in it, and are in there for a short period of time."

Shadow seem too bold? Trying the color out in a small area first can help decide if it enhances a room's overall look. "It's really important to get a white board and paint it the color, rather than painting directly over a wall," said Scappaticci. "If you have a color on your wall and you put a layer of a sample over it, you're not going to get the true color." Lighting also plays an important role in forming an impression. By using a painted white board, homeowners can move a color from wall to wall and see how it looks. Not looking to dip a brush? Decorators can go to Benjamin Moore's website, and order color-specific paint sheets to try out at home.

For homeowners looking to give their rooms a fresh facelift, Wallauer's Design Center offers the complete palette of Benjamin Moore paints. To learn more about Shadow, or other color options available, visit Wallauer's website today.
