Pleasantville's Jacob Burns Hosts Underage Substance Abuse Discussion

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- A community event discussing Westchester's underage substance abuse issues will be held at the Jacob Burns Film Center (JBFC) on Sunday, Nov. 2 at  7:30 p.m. The free event is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Included in the panel discussion: John Mueller, Yonkers Captain of Police and member of Pleasantville Safe Teens, Real Opportunities, New Goals (STRONG), Ellen Morehouse, Executive Director of Student Assistant Services, Lilly Neuman, Community Outreach and Education Coordinator for St Vincent's Hospital and JBFC Executive Director Edie Demas.

There will also be a screening of the short documentary "Whispering Spirits," which tells the story of Justin Veatch, a 17-year old musician from Yorktown Heights who died as a result of a drug overdose in 2008. The film follows the Veatch family as they grapple with the devastating loss of their son and come to reconnect with him through the music he left behind.

The event is presented in partnership with Pleasantville STRONG, a newly formed community coalition dedicated to reducing underage drinking and drug use by involving all sectors of the community to create and support on-going substance abuse prevention and reduction strategies.
