Sanitation Worker Critical In Newark Hit-Run Crash

A sanitation worker was hospitalized in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle Wednesday evening in Newark.

The man was collecting trash for an independent company when he was struck by a white Lincoln near the intersection of Hawthorne and Goodwin avenues around 11:30 p.m., Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said.

The driver fled the scene and the victim was taken to University Hospital. 

Authorities were searching for the driver as of Thursday morning.
