After speaking with Rye City Schools Director of Athletics Rod Mergardt for just a few minutes, it's easy to see that he loves his work, and being a part of the high school athletic environment.

He's in his 53rd year as an educator and 35th in athletics.

Mergardt, in his first year as AD at Rye, spent most of his career at Fox Lane (26 years). But Mergardt also had two-year stints as AD at Mamaroneck, Byram Hills and Sleepy Hollow, and spent a year as AD at both Ridgefield High and Tuckahoe High.

He grew up in Brewster, and went to Brewster High School (where he played football and baseball), then went on to Notre Dame, before transferring to SUNY Cortland.
