However, there was one incident during Wednesday’s storms that, without the intervention of a good Samaritan, could have turned out very badly, police said in a Facebook post.
An elderly woman with dementia wandered away from her senior citizen complex during the afternoon downpour, police said.
Her aide notified authorities, but all she could tell them was the woman, who had a small dog with her, may have been heading for the shops downtown.
While police were searching, a resident of Wayne Avenue spotted the woman and, because she appeared to be very disoriented, bundled her and her pooch into her car and drove her around until she recognized her building, police said.
The woman was safely turned over to police and management of the complex.
Police said they wanted to publicly thank the driver who rescued the woman but had incorrect contact information.
Without her intervention, and with the severe weather, there might not have been a happy ending, police said.
