'12 Years A Slave' Playing At Jacob Burns

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- Jacob Burns in Pleasantville is set to show "12 Years A Slave," starting Friday, Oct. 25.

The film is based on "the true story of one man's fight for survival and freedom" during pre-Civil War United States," according to a press release. The story features "Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a free black man from upstate New York" who is "abducted and sold into slavery," according to the release.

"Facing cruelty (personified by a malevolent slave owner, portrayed by Michael Fassbender), as well as unexpected kindnesses, Solomon struggles not only to stay alive, but to retain his dignity," according to the release.

The film, directed by Steve McQueen, is 133 minutes and is rated R.
