PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - The growing frozen yogurt market in Pleasantville has claimed its first casualty, as Rocnroe's Pop Shop in Pleasantville will be closing its doors for good next week. The family-owned store has been a staple on Wheeler Avenue since 2005, but decided it was time to say goodbye.
"We've been here seven years now and we decided it was a good run," said employee Shannon Muscara, whose father Rich owns the store.
Muscara cited increased competition as a reason for the stores closure. Competing shops, Yogolicious on Marble Avenue and Aunt Bs Yogurt Bar on Manville Road, both opened in Pleasantville in 2012.
"We chose to just get out while we're ahead, Muscara said.
The shop was prominently displaying the number six on its front door as of Thursday morning to keep a countdown of the store's remaining days. The retro yogurt shop carried Longford's ice cream, gelato, sorbet, candy and more.
In an "everything must go" sale, Rocnroe's will be selling its products for the next six days at discounted prices. Deals include 50 percent off bin candy, $1 candy bars and buy one get one free ice cream cones.
In contrast to the outgoing Pop Shop, neighboring storefront Miyabi Asian Bistro & Sushi Bar is flying a grand opening after opening earlier this month at 25 Wheeler Ave.
