A Streetscape Commitee has been formed to explore improving the downtown central business district by Pleasantville Road.

The committee is chaired by Lou Wachtel, who has lived in Briarcliff for 40 years.

"This is a project I am passionate and excited about," Wachtel said. "The committee is full of great people who love our village and want to see it improve."

Wachtel said the committee has toured eight other central business districts to see what they can take away from them to help improve Briarcliff.

"This has to be a collaborative effort," Wachtel said. "We have a marvelous mayor who has been very proactive and we need our tenants, landlords, and residents to get more involved.

Ideas being implemented include installing recycling bins and working on having the central business district be lit at night. The committee has also discussed improving signage and installing short-term parking.

Longer-term improvements include improving the sidewalks and exploring mixed-use development.

"We haven't done anything about our central business district in a long time and now it's time to do it," Wachtel said. "I feel blessed to live in Briarcliff."
